Meeting notice: The next meeting will be Saturday, April 4, at 10 am. We will be back in the Jefferson public library basement this time. Jane Millard tells me the new elevator is very quiet compared to the old one. Shirley Ross will share her knowledge of “Information Found in the Clerk of District Court Office.” Guests and new members are always welcome.

I thought it apropos since she is the one who organized the group back in 1978 after teaching a night school class.
We have come a long way since those early days when a few of us huddled around the old fireplace in the lobby of the Lincoln Hotel for our meetings. That is where Cal and Nona Ferris had their tax office.
Genealogy blog: Local member Margie Tolsdorf has started a genealogy blog at www.margietolsdorf.blogspot.com. She invites you to follow it so check it out. Maybe you have a family connection. If not, you might want to consider setting up your own. Margie mentioned that she would be printing some of her blog entries for the Greene County Fair. (Hint, hint!) The county fair is only three months away!
Greene County Libraries present … We were happy to co-sponsor this program with the libraries and the Greene County board of supervisors on March 31. Residents of Greene County will recall our friend Francis Cudahy whose mother arrived on one of the orphan trains. E. E. Kupfer of Rippey, father of Al Kupfer and “Babe” (Mrs. Max) Pett was another. The next Greene County Reads program begins April 16. This is a county-wide book discussion on the book Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. It will be led by Jan Scharingson. Contact your local Greene County library for details.
Reference library: The dust has settled after the elevator construction at the library, so we are open for business again in our old “digs.” If you have an interest in family history but need some help getting started, we have volunteers in our reference room every Wednesday from 1 to 4 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to noon. Recent names being researched are Dr. John R. Black, Anna Black, Edward Blackley, Jerry Connelley, Dugan, Shea and Harned.
